Throughout the province, the reforestation of deciduous stands is achieved through natural regeneration. Sound harvesting techniques employed under proper conditions coupled with aspen’s notable natural ability to regenerate from extensive root systems allow the harvested deciduous species to regenerate by root suckering and coppicing.

Through Footner Forest Products' involvement with the Mixedwood Management Association and The Western Boreal Aspen Corporation, Footner Forest Products works to refine existing understanding of the boreal forest and the best silvicultural practices to apply. Alberta law requires that all harvested areas be regenerated and surveys are conducted by independent certified field personnel to ensure that the regeneration that is occurring is sufficient in terms of species, densities and performance.
